Q) What does a officer do in sports branch?

ans) As an officer in this branch candidate will have to serve as Physical Training            Officers at various establishments, manage various sports events, also they are                    responsible for  training & nurturing some of the finest sportsmen of the Navy for national/international competitions.

AGE LIMIT :

Candidate is required to have age between –
(a) 21-25 years for yachting and wind surfing.
(b) 22-27 years for all sports except yachting and wind surfing.

Nationality :

A candidate should be:
1. An Indian citizen, or
2. A subject of Nepal, or
3. A subject of Bhutan,
4. Tibetan refugees migrated to India before January 1, 1962 and currently permanent residents, are also eligible to apply, or
5. A person of Indian Origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Burma, East African countries of Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Malawi, United Republic of Tanzania etc
The candidates belonging to ii), iii), iv) and v) should produce “Certificate of Eligibility”. The eligibility certificate is not required in case of Gorkha subjects of Nepal.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATION :

  • Regular Post Graduate Degree or BE/B. Tech in any field from a recognised university.
    Priority will be given to the candidates having Diploma in Sports Coaching from National Institute of Sports Or M.Sc in Sports (Coaching)

SPORTS QUALIFICATION :

In addition to education qualification Candidate should have any one of the following sports qualifications: –

For Yachting/ Wind Surfing –

  • Should have participated in a Senior National Championship conducted by YAI and  secured a minimum of 5th position in Olympic classes.
  • OR Should have represented India at the Asian Games or ISAF Youth Sailing World  Championships and secured a medal in Youth/Olympic Classes.
  • OR Should have attained a position amongst the top 50% of the fleet in a class of        boat/windsurf completed at the ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship

For All sports other than Yachting and Wind Surfing :

A candidate should have participated in Senior Level National Championships/ Games in any following disciplines:-
Athletics/ Cross Country/ Triathlon/ Tennis/ Squash/ Football/ Handball/ Hockey/ Basketball/ Volleyball/ Cricket/Swimming/ Diving/ Water polo / Kabaddi/ Boxing).

Type Of Commission :

Candidate is eligible only for Short Service Commission.

NOTE –

  • permanent commission (PC) –

    In this commission a person can work up to his retirement.

  • short service commission (SSC) –

    In this commission a person can work only for 10 years, or can extend his service up to 14 years.

TRAINING :

Candidates will be inducted as an officers in the rank of Sub Lieutenant and undergo Naval Orientation Course at the Indian naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kerala followed by professional training at various Naval Training Establishment /Units/Ships.

MARTIAL STATUS :

Unmarried

PHYSICAL STANDARDS :

HEIGHT :

Minimum height for male is 157 cm

EYE SIGHT :

Minimum acceptable vision standards for distant vision 6/12, 6/12 correctable to 6/6, 6/6 with glasses.

Candidates should not be colour / night blind.

About Tattoos :

  1. Permanent body tattoos are only permitted on inner face of forearm i.e
    from inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back (dorsal) side
    of hand.
  2. Permanent body tattoos on any other part of the body are not acceptable.
  3. Tribes with tattoo marks on the face or body as per their existing custom and traditions will be permitted on a case to case basis.

SALARY :

Candidates undergoing training will receive full pay & allowances, which is in between  Rs 56,100 – Rs 1,77,500

Method of Selection :

  1.  Candidates found suitable will be required to undergo sailing selection Trials by board of officers at one of the Naval stations.
  2. Shortlisted candidates will be called for preliminary interview at New Delhi.
  3. Candidates qualifying the sailing selection trials and preliminary interview will be called up for interview (SSB)
  4. If a candidate is able to clear interview, then he will have to undergo Medical Examination.
  5. If a candidate is also medically fit, then at last he had to Wait for Merit List, which will decide final selection of candidate into navy.
